What every first-time landlord needs to know

Homeowners can play an important role in moving people off the street and into a stable place to live. Have you thought about renting out a room in your house, your backyard house, granny flat, in-law apartment or Accessory Dwelling Unit to someone who is experiencing homelessness? If so, that means becoming a landlord. At a recent workshop hosted by the office of Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, homeowners who had the opportunity to learn about the basics of being a good landlord, fair housing, tenant rights, rent control and standards for upkeep of your property.
