After years of experiencing homelessness, Shannon now has a home of her own.

Vistas del Puerto provides  47 affordable apartments for households earning between 30 and 50 percent of the area median income, plus one manager’s apartment.

Half of the apartments are reserved for households that frequently rely on the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS), including people with chronic health conditions and those who have experienced homelessness. The remaining apartments are designated for large families. DHS and Los Angeles County Development Authority were among multiple sources of funding for the project.

The apartment complex features large community spaces, on-site parking, secured pedestrian entry, management and support service offices, bike storage, a bike lounge, edible garden planters, a community room complete with a kitchen, an outdoor courtyard, and on-site laundry. It was developed to meet Green Point Platinum environmental standards using energy efficient and sustainable features. Apartment amenities include a full kitchen, heating and air conditioning. Apartments reserved for DHS clients are fully furnished.

The site is close walking distance to a grocery store, pharmacy, schools, public library, medical clinic, and public transit, including the Metro Blue Line and Long Beach Transit bus stops. The site is also in close proximity to Mental Health America of Los Angeles’ Integrated Service Center.
