The grand opening of Alvarado & Temple Apartments marks an important milestone in expanding access to supportive housing in LA County. This new Homekey development adds 64 units of permanent supportive housing for individuals and families who are transitioning out of homelessness across two renovated sites in Echo Park.
At the Temple site, residents and guests are welcomed by The New Beginning, a vibrant mural by local artist and Brilliant Corners staff member Hedy Torres. The mural features narciso flowers, chosen for their meaning. As Torres shares, “Narciso flowers signify giving love and peace to others. When you bring joy and happiness to those around you, the happiness comes back.”
Alvarado & Temple Apartments bring much-needed supportive housing to the community. Brilliant Corners, a leading supportive housing developer and service provider in California, retrofitted the buildings to include accessible features and designed them to promote healing, stability, and connection. Each site includes rooftop gardens and onsite case management offices, where residents receive personalized, wrap-around care. Property management is provided by Solari Enterprises, Inc., and construction was led by Walton Construction.
The project is a strong example of collaboration across city, county, and state entities. Funding and development support came from a wide network, including the California Department of Housing and Community Development, Los Angeles Housing Department, Genesis LA Economic Growth Corporation, JLL Capital Markets, the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services.
The mural was made possible through the generous support of The James Irvine Foundation Leadership Awards, in partnership with Tre Borden Co. and Capitol Impact, and reflects the heart of this initiative as a fresh start rooted in community and care.
At the opening celebration on July 10, 2025, County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis and City Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez joined residents and partners to mark this milestone for permanent housing in Los Angeles.
