Spanning the first three quarters of FY 2020-2021, the Los Angeles County Homeless Initiative’s 19th Quarterly Report marks a shift in the presentation of updates and highlights about efforts to end and prevent homelessness countywide.

The report differs from its predecessors not only because it spans a unique moment in history — the COVID-19 pandemic — but also because it has a new focus on making data more accessible and engaging through the use of photos, videos, and even an interactive map of existing and prospective housing developments.

Noting the transition to new leadership under Interim Director Cheri Todoroff, the report also reintroduces the Homeless Initiative by including a primer on its history, action plan, and collaborating agencies and organizations. Following this introductory material, the report provides updates on Measure-H funded strategies from July 1, 2020 through March 30, 2021, including:

  • homelessness prevention
  • street outreach
  • supportive services and employment
  • interim housing
  • permanent housing

The report also features information on Project Roomkey and Project Homekey, both launched during the pandemic, and provides a preview of funding recommendations for FY 2021-22.

In summary, the report showcases the extraordinary steps taken by the Homeless Initiative and its partners to respond deftly and urgently to an unprecedented public health crisis while striving to sustain ongoing efforts aimed at ensuring every Los Angeles County resident has a safe place to call home.
