An innovative program that provides interim housing to homeless people recovering after hospitalization has just marked its first anniversary. Meet some of the clients who, rather than returning to the streets, have been nursed back to health and placed in permanent housing during the Recuperative Care Center’s first year of operation on the campus of the county’s MLK Community Hospital. All are “graduates” of a nurturing place where care for post-operative clients extends far beyond a warm bed and three meals a day. It can also include special programs like a recent Buddhist meditation class presented by the organization Tzu Chi.
