Jason is among the newest tenants The Moonstone, Los Angeles County’s first Homekey project in the South Bay. He spent years in foster care outside of California then held a steady stream of jobs in the food service industry but dropped everything in 2021 to move to Los Angeles County to support a very close relative in need. Unfortunately, his housing arrangements did not work out and soon Jason was sleeping outdoors, including near lifeguard towers, the Redondo Beach pier, and in his car.
Jason’s search for help led him to the nonprofit service provider, Harbor Interfaith, which provided him with a pallet shelter until an apartment became available at The Moonstone, developed in partnership with Century Housing. Through most of his unhoused experience in Redondo Beach, Jason continued to work as a cook at a local restaurant while attending El Camino College. He’s now only a few classes away from getting an associate degree in business administration and wants to pursue a bachelor’s degree at a CalState University. With the goal of someday securing management positions in the food service industry, Jason is grateful for the safety and security provided by The Moonstone.
