Los Angeles County has another Homekey project under construction: The Nest on Exposition.
The County and its partner, Wellnest, a provider of mental health and supportive services, secured a grant through the state’s Homekey program that they combined with other funding to build 24 units of interim housing for transition age youth, including former foster youth, between the ages of 18-24.
Supervisor Holly Mitchell joined California Department of Housing and Community Development Director Gustavo Velasquez and Wellnest President and CEO Charlene Dimas Peinado at the groundbreaking ceremony.
“This initiative has been possible thanks to $2.8M from the County’s Homelessness Initiative, nearly $600,000 from the Department of Children and Family Services and over $7M in funding from the State,” Supervisor Mitchell said. “Thank you to Wellnest along with County and state partners for helping us create vital housing for residents in the 2nd District.”
“The Groundbreaking Ceremony for The Nest on Exposition is a momentous occasion that signifies our commitment to creating a healthier community by providing vulnerable youth with the support they need,” said Ms. Peinado. “This project exemplifies the power of collaboration between public entities and dedicated organizations like Wellnest. We look forward to the positive impact it will have on our community.”
