Los Angeles County is launching a new effort to get help to the tens of thousands of homeless people living in the area.
Now, if you see someone on the street who needs help, but it’s not an emergency, you can go online and put in an outreach request on the LA Homeless Outreach Portal, or LA HOP. The service is available only for homeless people living on the streets
Colleen Murphy, with the LA Homeless Services Authority, is helping to oversee LA HOP.
The site is mobile-friendly and available in Spanish, Chinese and other languages.
Murphy says they expect to get a lot of requests and may take days for an outreach team to be deployed.
They’re only available during work hours on weekdays.
While there are more than 500 outreach workers out there, there are an estimated 40,000 people living on the streets in the U.S.
