Matt, 50 was living at the Midnight Mission in Skid Row, battling alcoholism, when he was referred to Chrysalis for job readiness services.
Chrysalis referred him to the LA:RISE program at the Southeast Los Angeles AJCC (America’s Job Center of California). Matt, who was interested in pursuing a career in truck driving, worked closely with an LA:RISE career planner who connected him to a Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program that enabled him to train with GSF Trucking.
Matt continued looking for employment while working at Chrysalis in the morning and training at GSF in the afternoon. After completing his training, he applied at multiple locations and started working with a truck company some months later.
