For people experiencing homelessness, pets provide important companionship and comfort and often serve as life-saving support animals. A key component of the Pathway Home program is that people who are transitioning out of homelessness can bring their pets with them as they move off the streets and into interim housing.
The Homeless Initiative and its partners ensure all Pathway Home interim housing locations are pet-friendly and make sure units are set up with pet food, water dishes, dog beds, blankets, and other basic pet essentials to help participants and their furry loved ones settle in. The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control is also on site on Pathway Home operation days to assist with any urgent, on-the-scene needs.
The loving bond between pets and their owners is always clear on Pathway Home operation days. This video montage of smiles – and wagging tails – showcases this bond in action through various Pathway Home scenes across the County over the past year.
