Jannie is a 73-year-old Army veteran, and her story of homelessness began over 15 years ago. Her husband was killed in South Los Angeles which started a series of events that caused her to lose her housing and become separated from her three daughters.
Jannie was able to get help from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) and the Los Angeles County Development Authority (LACDA), particularly their Veteran Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) program and Homeless Incentive Program (HIP). She was connected with a property owner who was particularly active in the Antelope Valley and enabled the entire family — now joined by three grandchildren — to move into a beautiful five-bedroom home in Palmdale.
Jannie wants to share her story with other families broken apart by tragedy and show them that there is a way forward to reunite and thrive together.
