Know Your Rights
LA County and community partners provide resources to help participants and staff understand immigration rights. The tools below support family preparedness and access to legal guidance.

Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA)
CHIRLA provides a full library of immigration rights resources including legal guidance, family preparedness tools, and Know Your Rights materials.
Know Your Rights Workshops
LA County Office of Immigrant Affairs hosts Know Your Rights workshops covering immigration policy updates, family preparedness, fraud prevention, and local resources. Sessions are available in English and Spanish.
Legal Resources and Guidance
The following organizations provide legal information and support for immigrants, including guidance on what to do if detained, arrested, or affected by immigration enforcement at home or at work.

National Employment Law Project (NELP)
Provides guidance on immigration enforcement in the workplace and workers’ rights.
National Immigration Law Center (NILC)
Provides legal guidance for individuals who are arrested or detained by immigration authorities.
LA Rapid Response Network Hotline
People can use this hotline to report immigration enforcement activity and request referrals for local, regional, or national legal immigration support and other services.

Report ICE Activity
Staff can use the Immigration Reporting Form to document and report ICE activity at or near HSH program sites. Accurate and timely reporting helps the department respond and support affected participants.
Important: Second-hand reports of ICE activity may be inaccurate or incomplete. Before submitting a report, attempt to verify the information as much as possible.

The LA Rapid Response Network Hotline allows people to report immigration enforcement operations and request referrals for legal and support services.

ICE Online Detainee Locator System
The ICE Online Detainee Locator System is the official U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement tool for locating individuals currently in ICE custody or who have been in U.S. Customs and Border Protection custody for more than 48 hours.
Note: ICE recommends using the A-Number search when available. The A-Number may have more than eight digits — enter all digits. You will also be required to select the detainee’s country of birth.
Search by A-Number
ICE recommends using the A-Number to locate a detainee. Enter all digits of the A-Number and select the individual’s country of birth to complete the search.
Search by Biographical Information
If no A-Number is available, search using the individual’s first name, last name, date of birth, and country of birth.

Support for Staff and Service Providers
Immigration enforcement creates barriers to housing, health, and social services for participants. The resources below help staff respond to participant concerns, connect people to legal support, and navigate challenging situations with care and accuracy.
Important: ICE activity may affect participant willingness to engage in services. Acknowledge participant concerns, provide accurate information, and connect people to legal resources without making assumptions about immigration status.
Family Preparedness
Help participants create a family preparedness plan, including a caregiver affidavit for children if a parent or guardian is detained.
